Flanders – A uniquely central business location

Flanders offers businesses a uniquely central location at the hub of European trade and the heart of European decision-making. Geographically, the region's immediate neighbors are France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and, just across the Channel, the UK. This places Flanders at the center of the wealthiest and most populated area of Europe and provides businesses with rapid access to leading markets and suppliers. Transport and communications infrastructures are highly developed.

Decision-making center

The capital of Flanders is Brussels - capital of Belgium and headquarters to the European Union and NATO, as well as a large number of other international organizations. In addition to the wide range of companies - large and small, local and foreign - located in Flanders, there are a considerable number of corporate headquarters operations based in the region itself and in Brussels.

Traditional crossroads of trade and culture

Situated at the very point where the Anglo-Saxon, Latin and Germanic cultures meet, Flanders has long been a crossroads of European trade and culture. This means businesses can benefit from the flexibility, language skills, business know-how and enterprise environment built up over centuries.

"The central location of Flanders is a key performance indicator for the competitiveness of a region. We are in the middle of the European market for our products."
Wouter De Geest, Managing Director, BASF Antwerp (2008)
